Lindsley Park improvements began as a community based development project for this neighborhood park. Located in East Dallas, the Hollywood-Santa Monica Neighborhood Association raised funds through donations, community fund-raisers, and matching public funds. The design was provided pro-bona for phase one construction.
Phase one construction incorporated new playground equipment, safety fallzones, benches, and concrete paths. The work was completed in the spring of 1994. In 1997, the city of Dallas Parks and Recreation Department approved additional funding for phase two construction. The development of design and construction documents included additional playground equipment, landscaping, site lighting and an outdoor pavilion.
Modern in approach, the classical proportions and use of materials in their raw state allow the pavilion to enhance and become one with its natural and historical surroundings. It is a paradigm of the people who built it, the place it stands, and the time in which it was built.
Funded by the city of Dallas Department of Parks and Recreation, the project was bid under budget at $222,242. Construction of phase two was completed early in 1998.
