The connection between music and architecture is extensive. Tectonics are translated in both theory and vocabulary. Scale, structure, color, theme, motive, articulation, rhythm are just a few of the linguistic correlations between the two arts. But the relationship goes far beyond semantics. Architecture has been referred to as “frozen music”. And music has been alluded to as “architecture of sound”. They both assuage the emotions, but they also create volume in space and time.

The very basic relationship lies in their dimensional qualities. Length, volume, pitch, height, color, resonance, width; can all be measured (in one form or another) in numerical values.

The idea of a direct transfiguration between music and architecture laid in the dimensional properties of both. The digital platform was chosen as a venue for this experiment. Two file types were chosen: cad (specifically AutoCAD) files and midi.
